An unabridged guide for your thesis

Master's thesis is pure research work that graduate students must do to obtain a master's degree. The thesis work is a part of the academic requirements. Students enrolled in MA Economics and other equivalent degrees under Tribhuvan University are asked to do a thesis during their final semester of master's.

Formal Steps in Thesis Writing

Proposal

Students are not allowed to begin their thesis unless the proposal is approved. A proposal is the roadmap or blueprint of the thesis. A well-written proposal turns your thesis endeavour into a pleasant one. The proposal contains the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Statement of problem
  • Research objectives
  • Literature Review
  • Methodology

Thesis

Students can safely carry out the thesis once the proposal is accepted.

I have included some of the demanding contents for the thesis.

Where to get data?

For time series data, visit NRB's Database of Nepalese Economy
(First, go through Readme)

For cross-sectional data, it is better to use secondary data collected by the National Statistics Office (NSO), World Bank, ILO, and so on. For example, Living Standard Surveys, Labour Force Surveys, Health Surveys, and so on.

Reference manager

Always use reference manager software for proper and error-free citations and corresponding references. Multiple free reference manager software such as Mendeley, Zotero, Endnotes, and so on exist. I prefer Mendeley as I am using it.
